Michiel Frielink was born in 1979 in Enschede in the Netherlands. He studied painting at the AKI Academy of Art and Design and graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
He has lived and worked in Leipzig since 2014.
At first glance, his pictures seem like they come from a bygone era. In fact, the artist uses the technique of the old masters and depicts his protagonists in scenes that look like theater sets in a current context. His pictures are strongly political and repeatedly deal with the subject of war - its origins and consequences - a subject that is more relevant than ever.
